I love to coach youth sports because I am convinced of the value sports has to the physical and mental development of young men and women. There is little substitute for organized sports to help young men and women get exercise to remain healthy. The discipline they learn playing sports will stay with them their entire lives. Also, organized sports require participants to use their minds along with their bodies, sharpening their thinking and problem-solving skills. I grew up playing baseball, football, soccer, basketball, and volleyball on organized teams, and believe those experiences were both enjoyable and helpful. I want to see that for my kids as well as other kids in the community.
Coaching is, for me, just another way to teach. Helping young kids understand a concept or skill requires instruction, explanation, and participation. I love to teach, I love sports, so it only makes sense that I would love to coach. I blog specifically about youth baseball.
