Bio

Steve McKinion (1970 – ) is originally from Mobile, Alabama, but spent his elementary and junior high school years in Clinton, Mississippi, where he played baseball, football, basketball, and soccer, and rode motorcycles. In his formative years he benefited greatly from being part of the talented and gifted program in Clinton (ACCENT).

In 10th grade his family moved to Semmes, Alabama, where he graduated from Mary G. Montgomery High School.

He finished his BA at Mississippi College, his MA at the University of Mobile, and his PhD at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, where he studied patristics with Iain Torrance.

At age 27, after completing his PhD, he became a professor at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he has taught since.

He has also been a Visiting Professor at the University of Mobile, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

Steve has also helped lead several church launches, and is currently leading a new church startup in Raleigh called New Covenant Fellowship.

He has a wife and three wonderful children, and continues to enjoy sports through coaching. After a near-fatal motocross accident in 2003 he is happy simply to watch his kids ride motorcycles.

Writing has been a big part of his life.  In addition to the articles, dictionary entries, and books he has in print, he is currently completing two major projects: the Isaiah volume in the Reformation Commentary on Scripture with IVP, and Invitation to Historical Theology with Kregel.

Steve has umpired baseball and softball, and coached his three kids in baseball, softball, and football.  Umpiring and coaching youth athletes is a great way to give to the community.
