Congress has passed, and the president signed, a bill sponsored by Republican congressman Michael McCaul of Texas and Democratic congressman G.K. Butterfueld of North Carolina. The legislation, known as the Creating Hope Act, incentivises the search for new and better treatments for childhood cancers and sicke cell anemia. I join parents of cancer kids in offering deepest gratitude for this congressional action. Rep. McCaul is also the founder of the Congressional Childhood Cancer Caucus. Thanks to these congressmen for taking the lead, and to President Obama for signing this bill into law.
“The passage of the Creating Hope Act marks an important milestone in efforts to find new cures and better treatments for children with cancer,” said Dr. Peter Adamson, Chairman of the Children’s Oncology Group and Professor of Pediatrics and Pharmacology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
